New Years Bash 2015 Results

The New Year also brought in our first show outside of Region 6! We attended the New Years Bash with our newly streamlined show string and had an absolute blast. It was nice to be free of the burden of over 100 show horses, favoring instead to bring only 40 horses to make it to the show ring.

At the end of the day, our Custom Show String seemed to outshine our Artist Resin one by having four of our very own in the call back class for the Division Championships! It was a very happy day full of great successes for us. We even were able to purchase 5 new horses for our collection from the Breyer Vendor that was at the horse show.

The highlight of the show was when my Ideal Quarter Horse, Sunny (Offspring of Go Man Go OF Breyer) won the "My Favorite Horse" class. It made me really overwhelmed with pride to see that my little boy, my special boy from my childhood, went above and beyond to win a very, very personal class. It was hard to judge one horse against another since there was so much sentiment there but when I saw him with his little plastic cup I could've cried. It was a very emotional moment!

Oh, and while the few Breyers we had in attendance didn't seem to do well, I have to give a shout out to Rhinestone Cowgirl, for getting first place in her class of Sport Horses of Color! It was a class of 32 horses and I was so delighted to see she pinned! Well done, girl!

Not sure what my next show will be, but I did have a lot of fun there!

They should be available late 2014! I am so honored! It is literally a dream come true!

Meet Independence!

Here he is! The big man himself! Independence got here without incident. He was painted on 12/20/04 so he will be a whopping 10 years old this Christmas. I am still unsure about what I'm going to do with him, but now I am considering sending him back to his painter, Christ Nandell-Flint, to get refurbished a bit. New eyes, some touchups, and a fresh matte coat.

Additionally, we will have our OTHER grail joining the ranks soon! We have arranged to purchase a Rose Reiner, and we will be getting her painted as a portrait of Jasmine, our beloved foundation bred AQHA mare. These two horses are literally a dream come true for us!

We'll be opening up a Youtube channel again, as soon as I can get all the details hammered out. I don't understand how on earth Google wants to play with Youtube, but my former account, skippythewonderhorse was locked due to not being linked with Google. Now I cannot access it at all. So I have to start all over.

Stay tuned!

Coming Soon... Independence!

Here's something we never thought we'd say we had coming! But Independence is on his way to his new home at Blackthorn Stables! This guy was painted by Chris Nandell-Flint into a Bay Tobiano, but I will likely be getting him repainted as a portrait of a former horse of mine. It may be a while before I send him off to Sakori Customs because once he's here, I just need to marvel at him for a few days!

We still have some horses listed for sale, but most of our Stone Horses have found their way into new homes. Only a very few remain. I'm very happy to have made this transition within the hobby, no regrets!

BIG Updates... now in Region 7

Alright, so there has been some huge changes here at Blackthorn Stables ever since the move from Region 6 to Region 7.

First, our Logo has been changed to a Tennessee Walking Horse with a Crescent moon to reflect our present focus within the hobby, which is on Gaited Breeds. We still use the Jumper logo, but will be using this one in addition to it!

Second, we have sold off most of our Stone Horse Show String and will no longer be pursuing Stone models. The following horses are no longer showing with us: Diamonds and Guns, California Rose, Nobody's Business, Spotted Big Time, Doktor Nowak, Domino Effect, Senorita Margarita, and Paparazzi. We have more of our show string still listed for sale: Iron Cross, High Note, Reign of Fire, Oakleaf Autumn, Tahitian Moon, Casual Friday, Whiskey Business, and Thieving Magpie. With the exception of our American Saddlebreds and our Tennessee Walking Horse "Mr. Firestarter" we will no longer be showing within the Stone Division for personal reasons.

Third, the good stuff! We have moved on to Customs and Artist Resins, the current focus being Gaited Horses, but we will be pursuing Stock and Sport breeds as well. Presently we have an Independence by Chris Nandell-Flint waiting in the wings, and a Moonshine resin by Kitty Cantrell being sent off to Sue Kern for painting. We also have an Amity and Phoenix on the way. The Amity is blank, and will be painted as a portrait model- the Phoenix is pictured above.

So a lot has changed, but all for the better. I feel more relaxed and rejuvenated in the hobby and I can feel the spark coming back.

I'm back from the show, and the results have been posted on the Show Reports section of the website.

All in all, I did okay. It has motivated me to flesh out my Live Showing section though to add more information about judging, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Blackthorn Stables would like to officially welcome Terms of Endearment aka "Maximus". Maximus came to us all the way from the United Kingdom, and before his stop there he took up residence in Australia but is American bred. He's come a long way, that's for sure. He is performing the levade, a very difficult maneuver that puts him at a 30 degree angle from the ground.

More Website Updates

Added new section in the Live Showing Tips section called "Breyer Showing Blues". This section goes over how fickle the OF show ring can be, and what you can do to lessen the blow if horses don't seem to be consistent in their wins.

I also re-added and will be working on my Blackthorn Stables Show String page now that the Live Show Tip section is largely completed. So I'll be going through the process of figuring out exactly how I want to showcase my horses (since some merit more information, while others really should only get very bare bones information).

My new "super horse" arrives tomorrow. Expect lots of pictures!

Hollow Horse Live - Test of a Halter Champion

April 13th is coming up, which means that Hollow Horse Live is just around the corner.

We're taking the time this weekend to prep many of our horses for their upcoming show. It is the test of a halter champion and horses may show in TWO divisions... winning a maximum of 2 NAN cards at the show in Halter. Of course, we have high hopes for Laws of Attraction and Colossus of Rhodes, as they are our consistent champions and the pride of our barn. This will be a true test for them. However, if they don't pull through in their "tougher" division, I will not hold it against them. After all, showing a custom against Artist Resins and Custom Glazed China horses is almost a surefire failure as people seem to appreciate customs the least. The plastic division is a slightly different story, as I feel that Rhodie will be able to hold his own and possibly triumph above the other OF horses since he has been so expertly groomed and handled. I guess we will have to see!

Are you going to be at Hollow Horse Live in April? Make sure to stop by and say hi! I will be judging the OF Other Make division as well as the OF China division.

We're a model horse barn located in Region 7. We'll be sharing new additions, updates, and video postings here. Unless otherwise noted, all updates are pertaining to model horses, not their real life counterparts. So I guess you could say we do a bit of role playing in this Blog.
